The remedy to your sleepless nights…

The other night I was having the hardest time falling asleep. In the pit of my stomach was this ball of anxiety. I get these nights every now and then. When I’m on vacation, not sleeping in my own bed but in a new place. When embarking on new adventures with uncertainties in every direction. Etc. Etc.

I pray.

I fix my eyes on Yeshua {Jesus} and ask for Him to take it away.

I intentionally cast my cares on Him.

I recite to myself how much He is faithful and that He is worthy of all my trust.

But sometimes my heart and the pit of my stomach are on an entirely different page.

This night was different though. I asked God why this pattern continued in my life. Every so often a sleepless night shows up at my door with no invite.

And He answered. Well, it was more of a question.

He asked, “Where are you trying to get your peace from?”

I then realized that I found comfort and peace in my home, my bed, my husband, the “seen & known” in my life instead of the “unseen & unknown”.

I even took things like Tums to calm my stomach and Benadryl to make me tired.

If He is the source of my peace then why did I look to these physical things for comfort?

When the storms of life come…are we looking to the wind and waves for peace? Or are we looking to Yeshua.

He IS our peace.

That night, after He brought this to my attention, Psalm 23 came into mind.

“Adonai (The Lord) is my shepherd; I lack nothing. He has me lie down in grassy pastures, he leads me by quiet water, he restores my inner person…” Psalm 23:2-3.

He is faithful and His Word is true. But let’s be real here. Even King David’s life wasn’t full of actual physical grassy pastures and quiet water 24/7. Even the most faithful and righteous of the Bible faced valleys and storms.

He is our grassy pasture to lie down in. He is the quiet water we’re led to. He restores our inner person.

“…He guides me in right paths for the sake of his own name.” Psalm 23:3

Yeshua said, “I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” He is the right path, the way, we are guided on for the sake of His own name.

“Even if I pass through death-dark ravines, I will fear no disaster; for you are with me; your rod and staff reassure me.” Psalm 23:4

Even if our circumstances in the valley are tough, uncertain, and hard we do not have to fear for He is with us, never leaving us nor forsaking us, and He is faithful to reassure us and guide us.

“You prepare a table for me, even as my enemies watch; you anoint my head with oil from an overflowing cup.” Psalm 23:5

In the midst of adversity and opposition, He is preparing a table for us to be seated at to enjoy the taste of His goodness and provision. So take comfort that if you are facing an enemy, His response is, “Take a seat at my table I’ve prepared for you and enjoy a meal because the battle is mine!” He anoints you from an overflowing cup of abundance. He anoints you with His presence that He promises. You. Are. Not. Alone.

“Goodness and grace will pursue me every day of my life; and I will live in the house of Adonai (the Lord) for years and years to come.” Psalm 23:6

Hear that?

His goodness and grace that knows no end will pursue you EVERYDAY. And He calls you to live with Him for years and years to come!

Can we just take a moment to let that sink in. The Creator of the Universe, the Great I AM, Jesus Christ wants us to live with Him in His house! How cool is that!

No matter where you are or what you are facing, you have access to His peace. Because He IS the source of peace and shalom!

So if you are feeling anxious today, ask yourself this question.

Where are you trying to get your peace from?

Now shift your eyes to Him. He will never change. He will never leave you nor forsake you. And He is trustworthy.

“Then God’s shalom, passing all understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with the Messiah Yeshua.” Philippians 4:7

“A person whose desire rests on you, you preserve in perfect peace, because he trusts in you.” Isaiah 26:3

“May Adonai bless you and keep you. May Adonai make his face shine on you and show you his favor. May Adonai lift up his face toward you and give you peace.” Numbers 6:24-26

“What I am leaving with you is shalom–I am giving you my shalom. I don’t give the way the world gives. Don’t let yourselves be upset or frightened.” John 14:27
