“If the LORD is pleased with us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us–a land which flows with milk and honey.” Numbers 14:8
Is it possible to be delivered from slavery but not make it to the Promised Land? Absolutely. The Israelites were spared in Egypt by putting the blood of the Passover Lamb on their doors, they were set free from bondage, traveled through the wilderness but most never made it into the Promised Land itself.
Moses cried out,” Look! ADONAI your God has placed the land before you. Go up, take possession, as ADONAI, the God of your ancestors, has told you. Don’t be afraid, don’t be dismayed.'” Deuteronomy 1:21. “But you would not go up. Instead you rebelled against the order of ADONAI your God; and in your tents you complained, ‘It’s because ADONAI hated us that he has brought us out of the land of Egypt, only to hand us over to the Emori to destroy us. What sort of place is it that we’re heading for? Our brothers made our courage fail when they said, “The people are bigger and taller than we are; the cities are great and fortified up to the sky; and finally, we have seen ‘Anakim (giants) there.“I answered you, ‘Don’t be fearful, don’t be afraid of them. ADONAI your God, who is going ahead of you, will fight on your behalf, just as he accomplished all those things for you in Egypt before your eyes, and likewise in the desert, where you saw how ADONAI your God carried you, like a man carries his child, along the entire way you traveled until you arrived at this place. Yet in this matter you don’t trust ADONAI your God, even though he went ahead of you, seeking out places for you to pitch your tents and showing you which way to go, by fire at night and by a cloud during the day.’ ADONAI heard what you were saying, became angry and swore, ‘Not a single one of these people, this whole evil generation, will see the good land I swore to give to your ancestors, except Kalev the son of Y’funeh -he will see it; I will give him and his descendants the land he walked on, because he has fully followed ADONAI'”Deuteronomy 1:26-36. Sound Familiar?
Have you fully followed Jesus?
So many have received the free gift of salvation at one time, “For you have been delivered by grace through trusting, and even this is not your accomplishment but God’s gift.” Ephesians 2:8. Just like the Israelites with the Passover Lamb that night in Egypt. Unearned but received by faith. But Maybe since then you’ve gone through the wilderness and your heart has strayed like theirs did. Your trust has diminished and obedience to the Most High feels irrelevant and unnecessary. But we know that many will believe that they are saved but will not enter the ‘Promised Land’ or the ‘Kingdom of Heaven’. This is confirmed in Matthew 7:22-23, “On that Day, many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord! Didn’t we prophesy in your name? Didn’t we expel demons in your name? Didn’t we perform many miracles in your name?’ Then I will tell them to their faces, ‘I never knew you! Get away from me, you workers of lawlessness!’”.
We must continue trusting in Him, standing firm in our faith and live in relationship with Him. We can’t claim to be saved and to know Him but knowingly walk in and celebrate sin. “Therefore you too must always be ready, for the Son of Man will come when you are not expecting him. ‘Who is the faithful and sensible servant whose master puts him in charge of the household staff, to give them their food at the proper time? It will go well with that servant if he is found doing his job when his master comes. Yes, I tell you that he will put him in charge of all he owns. But if that servant is wicked and says to himself, `My master is taking his time’; and he starts beating up his fellow servants and spends his time eating and drinking with drunkards; then his master will come on a day the servant does not expect, at a time he doesn’t know; and he will cut him in two and put him with the hypocrites, where people will wail and grind their teeth!” Matthew 24:44-51.
My question to you is this. If we are saved by uttering a quick prayer one time in our lives only then why did Jesus spend so much time teaching us to ready ourselves and to be fully prepared for when He comes. We will stumble as believers just like all children do and our Father loves and delights in us. No one can pluck us out of His hands…but we can walk away. I encourage you to ask Him to examine your heart. Ask Him to search you and know you and He will always be faithful to come alongside you, communicate with you and lead you by His Holy Spirit. If you are truly ready to surrender He will empower you by His Grace to walk uprightly.
My heart for you all is to not only be freed but to be a Victor on that Great Day when Jesus comes to gather us up!
“How blessed is the man who perseveres through temptation! For after he has passed the test, he will receive as his the crown of Life which God has promised to those who love him.” -James 1:12
